Despite all the hurdles, 2020 has been an exceptional year for gaming. The following is a list of titles that have appeared this year and pushed boundaries.

Top 3 Video Game Titles of 2020

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

This game has been one of the finest entries in this year’s list of titles. It became the best-selling game in the franchise, the best-selling Nintendo Switch exclusive, the second best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, and the second-highest selling game of all time in Japan.

The success of the title has partially been attributed to the popularity it gained when everyone was restricted within the four walls of their homes.

The premise of the game resembles the previous entries in the franchise.  Its USP, however, is that New Horizons exposes players to an environment that reflects virtual reality, thus enabling them to create an island of their dreams.

The game won Game of the Year at the Japan Game Awards because of its worldwide acclaim. The title also received three nominations at the Game Awards 2020, including Game of the Year. Ultimately, it won Best Family Game.

The Last of Us II

The Last of Us II was the most anticipated game this summer. Amidst all the controversy regarding the portrayal of violence in the game, Naughty Dog created a visual masterpiece. The game has received a lot of praise for its storyline, gameplay, and mind-bending visuals.

Having sold over four million copies in its release weekend, the game became the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive, surpassing triple-A titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War.

Following the success of its predecessor that came out in 2013, The Last of Us II had some big shoes to fill. Evidently, it didn’t fail to meet the expected standards.

As expected, Naughty Dogs’ The Last of Us II bagged the highest praise, Game of the Year, at The Game Awards this year. The post-apocalyptic game entered the show as a favorite to bag the title, but also won awards in seven other categories.

Not only did the game upend traditional notions of a video game character, but it has also been the frontrunner in attaining accessibility for all, which is an essential step for the video game industry.

Ghost of Tsushima

With the advanced technology of today, even the virtual world has the power to represent reality. What will be more relatable? Just another graphical experience of your surroundings or an immersive experience that guides you through a phase of linear progression?

From the beating of drums to the grass rustling by your side, Ghost of Tsushima drenches your mind in an open-world of beauty while showcasing just how big a part sound effects can play in video games.

The game takes us into a beautiful world with a perfect amalgamation of resplendent weather effects, winds with dry orange leaves, and bush green hills with beautiful sunsets. It’s like a painter’s palette where the colors have just come alive.

Ghost of Tsushima is a masterpiece with open-world gameplay. The interaction of the character with its surroundings nurtures movement and makes the quests astonishingly realistic. You won’t just play this game, you will live in its guided reality.

To nobody’s surprise, Ghost of Tsushima took home the award for Best Art Direction at The Game Awards this year.
