THRASHED! Alize Cornet Once Again Ousts World No. 7 Bianca Andreescu at Wimbledon Championships 2021 R1

We’re still in the early stages at the Wimbledon Championships 2021 and there have been quite a few upsets already. Today, Canadian player Bianca Andreescu took on French player Alize Cornet in the opening round match.
In a surprise result, the Canadian player lost the match 2-6 1-6.
Set 1: Alize Cornet too heavy for Bianca Andreescu

Andreescu began serving as the match began. Both players held their service games initially. As the fifth game began, Alize Cornet felt she had a chance and capitalized on her opponent’s serve. She got the first break of the match and consolidated by holding serve the next game.
To make matters worse, the Frenchwoman handed her opponent a second break and was sitting comfortably on a 5-2 lead. After 49 minutes into the match, Cornet sealed the set 6-2, with Bianca committing 22 unforced errors whereas Cornet hit just four.

Set 2: Alize Cornet too strong for the Canadian
As the second set started, the momentum was clearly with Alize. She broke Andreescu in the first game of the set. After consolidating the break, she held serve and stepped up the ante by breaking Bianca for the second game in a row.
The Canadian player slipped during that game and was clearly feeling lost at that moment. Within a matter of minutes, Alize raced to a 4-0 lead.

Things were getting away from the Canadian athlete, and she was close to facing an unfortunate result. She managed to win a game, but it was looking gloomy for Andreescu.
The unforced errors kept mounting, and on the other side, Cornet was smashing winners by her opponent. Bianca did get a glimpse in the following game to break Alize, but the Frenchwoman was too strong to hand anything over. In the end, Cornet won the set 6-1.

It’s unfortunate for the Canadian as she has lost in the opening rounds of the last two Grand Slam events now. It will be nice to see her bounce back and achieve success as she has done in the past.
