The wrestling competitions at Tokyo Olympics 2020 provided a new champion in Gable Steveson. The last match in the men’s 125kg category saw a thrilling bout between him and Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili. Although the match was in favor of the Georgian, Gable came back from a one-point deficit to score a two-point touchdown. The final score was 10-8 as Gable won the first gold medal of his career. Likewise, in an endearing moment, the champion gave his gold medal to a buffet server which showed the lighter side of the American.

Gable gives his gold medal to a server
The ultimate victory sparked wild celebrations as Gable won the final. But this moment speaks volumes about his personality alone. The way he gave his medal to the server was something admirable for a wrestler who has won a lot of hearts.

After defeating the former Olympic Champion, Taha Akgul, Gable was expected to take home the gold medal. Then, he wrestled M?nkht?riin Lkhagvagerel from Mongolia and defeated him with a score of 5-0. The American wrestler notably did not lose a point in his route to the finals.
However, the last match proved to be tougher than expected.

Gable shines at Tokyo Olympics 2020
Despite the victory, Steveson struggled during the first half of the final. After trailing 8-5 to Geno, there were only 0.7 seconds on the clock. Gable produced an epic moment as he scored a takedown in the dying ends of the match. The wrestler could not believe what happened as he spoke in the post-match interview.
“I looked at the clock and it was like 0.3. And I was like, ‘Ain?t no way,’ and my head just like flushed with everything. And I was like, Wow,” said Gable.

After outscoring his opponents to 23-0 in the first three rounds, this encounter proved to be a test for the talented athlete. Instead, he came up big when it mattered, and won the bout with ease.
