Team USA Wins Historic Medal in Team Dressage Equestrian Event at Tokyo Paralympics 2020

The Tokyo Paralympics 2020 are another sporting event where the USA looks to dominate. Carrying a strong contingent of 242 athletes, they will look to showcase their talents in Japan. Despite China leading the medals tally by winning 53 gold medals, the US comes in third place with 17 gold medals. Likewise, to add that list, the US equestrian team won the bronze medal in the team dressage competitions.

Notably, this becomes the first time that the US equestrian team won a medal in the team dressage competition. A quite remarkable achievement.

Team USA wins first-ever team dressage medal at Paralympics

The bronze marked the second medal victory for the US equestrian team in this year’s Paralympics.

The team comprising Roxanne Trunnell, Rebecca Hart, and Kate Shoemaker delivered a magnificent performance in Tokyo to give them a historic victory. Likewise, Trunnell won the gold medal in the individual test grade I. Significantly, she became the first American to win a medal in the competition since 2004 while also becoming the first gold medal winner from the USA since 1996.

Moreover, the team dressage event was set to music for the first time in the competition’s history. No other nation is as dominant as Great Britain in this competition having won again with a score of 229.905. The Netherlands took home the silver with a score of 229.249 while the USA won bronze by setting a score of 224.352.

“To be able to finally after so many years get to stand on that podium as a country, it’s so fulfilling. It’s a lifelong dream that has just come through.”

“Only having three of us and knowing there wasn’t a drop score meant every single movement counted. And then today coming in as the last rider for my team, I just needed to go in there and get it for them,” said Hart.
