Fernando Alonso stunned many when he announced that he will not be racing in F1 in 2019. In a statement earlier today, he made the emotional announcement that he will step away from the sport. This provides him with a chance to compete in the IndyCar series and attempt the Indy 500.

I’ll miss Fernando’s fiery character and relentless speed. Unfulfilled potential yet still huge achievements in F1. Needed somebody stronger than him around to control the destructive moments which prevented him being first choice for any team, but not sure such a person exists
