Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg was delighted with 6th ahead of Esteban Ocon’s Force India. Fernando Alonso battled his way to 8th ahead of Kevin Magnussen and Pierre Gasly in 10th. The 2018 British Grand Prix was quite eventful to say the least. There was plenty of action up and down the order. It was first triggered when Raikkonen tagged Hamilton, sending the latter into a spin.

Meanwhile, at the back, Sergio Perez spun off and nearly swiped one of the startled Williams drivers. Unfortunately, Brendon Hartley was unable to make the start of the race and he became the first casualty. Sometime later, Charles LeClerc’s point-scoring run was rudely interrupted as he encountered an unexpected issue.

With 21 laps left, Marcus Ericsson in the other Sauber brought out the safety car with a high-speed crash. Fortunately, he emerged from the car unscathed. Barely a couple of laps after the safety car came in, it was brought out again. This time, Romain Grosjean and Carlos Sainz collided.

6 laps from the finish, Max Verstappen spun but rejoined. But he later pulled over to retire from the race. Meanwhile, things were heating up at the front as both Ferraris hounded the Mercedes. What helped their case was the fact that Vettel and Raikkonen were on fresh tires. As it turned out, the Ferraris pitted during the first safety car along with both Red Bulls.

This meant that Hamilton and Bottas were pretty much vulnerable to attack. Bottas’ situation was worse off because he dropped to 4th from 1st. With this victory, Vettel has assumed the lead in the championship.
