Christmas is early as UFC gifts the fight fans the best fight card of this year in Madison Square Garden. The favorite son of Stockton, Nate Diaz will take on the Street Jesus, Jorge Masvidal for the Baddest Motherf***r title. The rising star of UFC, Darren Till will announce his middleweight debut against one of the toughest fighters in the division, Kelvin Gastelum. The sensational Johnny Walker will be looking to make a statement against Corey Anderson. You can’t ask for more in a PPV. UFC 244 is bringing the fireworks like never before this Saturday from New York. Let’s go through the fights on the main card and prelims.

Jorge Masvidal is on his prime at the moment. The knockouts against Darren Till and Ben Askren support that argument. However, it’s always tricky matters when you are up against Nate Diaz. None of the fighters are invincible but both of them can go for five straight rounds irrespective of who the opponent is.

Masvidal is a phenomenal striker with a solid ground game. While Nate Diaz is arguably the best boxer in the division with second to none ground game. Jorge Masvidal is more likely to knock his opponents out than Nate Diaz who is a cardio king and likes to fight a long fight with a high volume of punches. If the fight goes to ground then Diaz is in big advantage. Diaz is likely to be more successful in the clinch department as well and the 5 round fight favors him as well. Masvidal does have a strong chance to win the fight in the early rounds. But as the fight goes on, it favors Diaz.

Darren Till makes his middleweight debut against former number one title contender, Kelvin Gastelum. till is coming off two consecutive losses in the welterweight division. However, things might not be the same at all in middleweight division where he does not have to cut a ton of weight. Till was doing well in Masvidal fight until he got caught as well.

On the other hand, Kelvin Gastelum is the talk of the town after his performance against Adesanya. He is a great boxer, he is durable and he has a strong wrestling base. However, Till is going to have a significant reach advantage. Till had a long layoff after his last loss and he looks in phenomenal shape before the fight. Although it can’t be predicted whether Till will have the cardio in 185, he will surely have more power than in 170. Till is likely to get the knock out in the later rounds.

This is a tricky one. Both fighters like to stay back and counter their opponents. Thompson is coming from two losses while Luque is on a 6 fight win streak. Luque is predominantly a striker and it’s hard to bet against Wonderboy in a striking battle. Darren Till did win a close decision win against Thompson, however, Luque has not fought anyone as good as Thompson yet. So Wonderboy will get the W against Luque in MSG.

Derrick Lewis has been on a decline after the failed attempt to capture the title shot. He has lost to Daniel Cormier and Junior Dos Santos, two of the greats in the division meanwhile. Agreed, Lewis is durable and he has the knockout power. However, he is not well rounded. His game plan falls apart unless he lands big shots. On the other hand, Ivanov can go five rounds with fighters such as Junior Dos Santos, something that shows he is more sound than Lewis technically and skills-wise. Hence Blagoy Ivanov gets the W against the Black Beast in UFC 244.

Former lightweight title contender, Kevin Lee takes on Gregor Gillespie who is unbeaten in his MMA career with a record of 13 wins. Gregor Gillespie has impressed everyone with his wrestling and grappling. However, he has not faced any top contenders in the division. Kevin Lee is a phenomenal fighter. What he was missing in his previous fights were a good game plan and good conditioning to go 5 rounds. However, he has been training with Firas Zahabi, George St Pierre and Rory McDonald for a meaningful period and this has to boost his game up. Kevin Lee ends the winning streak of Gregor Gillespie in UFC 244.
