Is Mike Tyson training for a fight or for show? The legendary boxer has been posting brief training clips that are sparking debates among the UFC and boxing world. Ex-UFC fighter, Chael Sonnen, has already put doubts into his viewers’ minds about this fight due to the age gap between Tyson and his opponent, Jake Paul, who is 30 years younger than him.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley‘s coach Tim Welch and Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs also spoke about the return of ‘Iron’ Mike with a fight against the social media star turned boxer. However, while talking about it, they, too, doubted whether the training videos uploaded by Tyson were genuine or not.

Joe Riggs and Tim Welch discuss Mike Tyson

During the long podcast, Welch asked Riggs whether he was aware of the bout that was about to happen between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Riggs was pretty straightforward in saying that if he was ‘a betting man’ he would bet on Jake Paul and not Mike Tyson. Welch agreed and said that Tyson was 57 years old and even if he was a legend in his prime, at present, his age might get the better of him. The boxing fight is also going to be for 8 rounds and according to the duo, the fighters might not be wearing headgear either.

‘Diesel’ also said, “They put out like, different videos of Mike working out and stuff, and uh and he looks good.” However, Welch explained that videos could be cut and edited according to interest. He said, “I mean but how easy is it to do like, ‘alright give me your hardest 1,2,3; roll under 32, then I’m gonna cut it and keep adding.” Diesel took the strain and continued, “Yeah you can; like anybody who works out here, knows something, and then just film for 20 minutes and put together a 2-minute video that makes him look like a star.”

So according to their conversation, the videos might be edited in a way that makes Tyson look ready to fight and make him look as strong as he was in his prime. This context ignited a flurry of debate among the fans as well.

10-second video of Mike Tyson Makes a debate go 10-fold

A brief training video posted by Tyson has started an intense debate. The video lasts only 10 seconds and captures the ‘Iron’ Mike fiercely hitting mitts for the first 5 seconds. After the short display of his powerful punches, Tyson declared with pride, “It’s day 1…the fun has just begun.”

However, the authenticity of his training prowess was called out by people inside the industry. 46-year-old retired MMA fighter, Chael Sonnen, responded with his doubts. ‘Uncle Chael’ wrote in his typical fashion, “In the future if you’re ever going to spend five seconds hitting mitts, as a way of making the audience believe you’re doing a training session, make sure you splash water on your face and T-shirt first.”

This suggested that the ex-UFC fighter believed the video to be more of a publicity stunt and performance rather than an actual glimpse of Tyson’s training. Although the former heavyweight champion is still in great shape even at 57, do you think he can win against Jake Paul?
