After being called off twice, the Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury fight has finally come to fruition. Fighting before a crowd in Riyadh on February 26, both rivals will finally conclude their rivalry inside a boxing ring that has been raging for the past 3 years. Ahead of their eventual fight, the fans and the UFC veteran Chael Sonnen alike suspect another last-minute cancellation of the much-anticipated fight. Moreover, the fans believe that ‘TNT’ might produce another excuse to not show up. While the British boxer pulled out on previous both occasions, the YouTube sensation made quick work of the replacements.

Appearing on Steve-O’s Wildride ep #144, Chael Sonnen talked about the upcoming boxing fight. Additionally, the submission grappler mentioned how the fans pushed the fight they didn’t want.

Sonnen reveals how fans pushed Jake Paul for the fight

The host started the conversation as he asked the 45-year-old for his reason for sitting out on the fight. Responding to him, Sonnen pointed out that he didn’t believe that the boxing community had set the social media influencer ‘to very large extents’.

Further, the 31-17-1 record holder mentioned, “They told him, ‘go fight Fury now’.”

Also, the MMA fighter-turned-analyst disclosed that the boxing community didn’t want to see the fight. And in case the recent PFL signee bagged the fight, they would snatch the credit away from the prizefighter.

Thus, the former ESPN associate said, “They were going to take the credit from him and say, ‘oh this guy’s never fine but in the top 10 and he’s not a real boxer’.”

“They’re telling him, ‘This is the one. We’ll get behind. Let’s encourage it’. The old man’s character, his brother Tyson’s, the most respected guy, and they’re just setting him up for failure,” he added later on.

The BJJ ace continued and declared, “And I don’t really feel like coming and telling the audience to watch this fight, that I don’t think Fumbles is going to show up to.”

Furthermore, the Oregon-born announced that the fight will take place in Saudi Arabia. Thus, he stated, “So now it’s a lot more likely than if he was going to come over and do it at Madison Square Garden on his own.”

“But, you know, I’m not comfortable believing it’s gonna happen. I don’t think the guy wants to box him,” Sonnen followed up.

Interestingly, the former UFC title contender also had a hot take as he announced, “That’s the problem, I don’t think Tommy and Jake Paul could sell the Garden… so I don’t think you could come and burn that same market twice.”
