Along with being one of the most dominant players to grace the NBA court, it is no hidden fact that Shaquille O’Neal is an MMA fan. The former NBA player also makes it a point to acknowledge the greatness of athletes across various sports in his own way. The four-time NBA champion once revealed his jealousy of seeing the dominance of fellow athletes like Georges St-Pierre in their respective sports.
The $400 million worth NBA legend had tweeted, “George st pierre, michael phelps, floyd mayweather and lebron, are the new breed of the most dominant athletes in the world. I’m jealous lol”

O’Neal’s tweet can be traced back to 2010, a day after Georges St-Pierre defended his prestigious welterweight title against Dan Hardy at UFC 111. The previous year, 2009, and the following year were some of the most dominant times in St-Pierre’s reign.

St-Pierre’s 2009 began with him defending his welterweight crown against BJ Penn in a rematch. While Penn initially did well in the rematch, St-Pierre took Penn down at will after the second round. ‘Rush’ passed his guard and even landed punches, before earning a corner stoppage at the end of round 4.
In his next bout, ‘Rush’ defended his title against the dangerous Thiago Alves. While Alves showed promise on the feet, St-Pierre’s wrestling and ground control proved too much for Alves, who succumbed to a unanimous decision loss. Following this, St-Pierre began 2010 by successfully defending his title against Dan Hardy, and ended it by making another defense against Josh Koscheck.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was right about St-Pierre’s dominance. Not only was St-Pierre dominant in these years, but he made an insane nine consecutive welterweight defenses by 2013 and became a UFC champ-champ in 2017.
