32-Year-Old UFC Fighter Gets “Emergency Surgery” After Losing Vision: “I’m Sorry I Can’t Put On a Show”

The UFC star Andre Fili has pulled out of his upcoming fight against Lucas Almeida, which was scheduled to take place on February 25. Further, the American fighter, who recently returned to the win column last year, revealed the cause in a heartfelt message. While ‘Touchy’ wanted to maintain his winning momentum at UFC Vegas 70 at the UFC Apex facility in Nevada, fans might have to wait till the end of the year to see the featherweight fighter grace the Octagon. Additionally, the MMA fighter, who once called for respect for the Paul brothers, vowed to come back strong and clarified his intention to reign supreme at the 145 lb.

Notably, the Washington-born took to his Instagram handle and broke the emotional news to his fans. Disclosing the cause to be the gradual loss of vision in his right eye. The 32-year-old fighter also recently went through emergency surgery.

The 22-9-1 record holder in the message posted his photo post-surgery. In addition, the fans could spot the Team Alpha Male representative with an eyepatch, along with his loyal friend.

The holder of the most split-decision wins in featherweight history expressed his gratitude toward the fans. Further, he thanked the fans for checking on him. While Fili expressed regret for not putting on a show for them, he also promised to mark his Octagon return by the end of this year.

Thus, he wrote, “Started losing vision in my right eye. Had emergency surgery and got it fixed. I’m very grateful. Love you all. Thanks for checking in on me.”

“I’m sorry I can’t put on a show for you guys Feb 25th, but I will be fighting later this year and I will be World Champion. They can never breakus. O&U,” Fili added later on.

However, this is not the fight time Fili has to undergo an emotional upheaval.

Andre Fili last fought against Bill Algeo at UFC 260, where he got his hand raised after a span of three fights. However, the fighter had a tough outing due to the emotional baggage he carried into the fight.

During the post-interview with Daniel Cormier, he revealed he came into the fight after suffering the loss of his unborn child.
