‘49 I’m Done’ – Anderson Silva Finally Talks Retirement From Professional Combat Sports

Anderson Silva is one of the greatest fighters to ever be a part of MMA. The UFC legend has an incredible MMA record of (34-11) and is a former UFC champion. ‘The Spider’ holds the record for the longest title reign in UFC history and also holds the record for 16 consecutive UFC victories.
At one point in time, Silva had an amazing MMA record of 33-4 and was considered the world’s best. However, since losing his UFC middleweight title to Chris Weidman, the fighter could never get back to his best. Silva’s last UFC fight was against Uriah Hall at UFC Vegas 12 on October 31, 2020.
‘The Spider’ lost that fight via a 4th round TKO and since has not competed in an MMA fight. The fighter then went back to boxing as he faced Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 19, 2021. Silva won that fight via split decision.

Currently, Silva is 46 years old, and therefore many people believe that we have seen the last of ‘The Spider. However, ‘The Spider’ already has his next fight booked, as he will box Tito Ortiz on September 11, 2021. Recently Silva sat for an interview with TMZ sports, where they asked him about his retirement plans.

Silva said, “My goal is my last fight is 49. 49 I’m done. Probably, I don’t know. That is my goal. Fight 3 more years and done. 49 that’s the number. Maybe I can fight more, but right now my goal is when I turn 49, I stop fighting. I don’t fight anymore. But I don’t know you know, I’m in good shape. I am so happy to go to the gym every day.”
What to expect from the fight between Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz?
Silva performed admirably in his last fight and won via split decision. Therefore, the fighter would look to continue the winning momentum when he faces Ortiz. However, Ortiz is no slouch as the fighter is also a former UFC champion and an MMA legend.

However, the fighter has yet not competed in a professional boxing fight and that could give the edge to Silva. While it is difficult to predict the outcome of this fight. One thing is sure that when these two fighters face each other, it is surely going to be a treat to watch.
