UFC star Beneil Dariush, who is chasing the ever-elusive title shot, left as a lucky man after his meeting with the top brass of the UFC management, turned fruitful. While the lightweight fighter was on the verge of his first championship opportunity, he decided to not sit out. Instead of waiting around, he picked a fight against Charles Oliveira that awaits a new date. However, there is another reason that hinders his title shot, a contractual stipulation.
The American fighter wanted to iron out the details in a meeting with the UFC president Dana White and Hunter Campbell. However, the meeting broke off after the news of Charles Oliveira pulling out of UFC 288 overshadowed it. Despite the abruption, the 33-year-old squeezed in favors for himself.

Beneil Dariush needed an overhaul of the contract for a title fight
The #4 ranked lightweight during an appearance on Submission Radio revealed he met Dana White regarding pay raise issues. Further, he disclosed the only reason he couldn’t fight for a title was that UFC didn’t offer him one.

Moreover, the BJJ ace believed he had earned the title shot and because of that, he wanted to be paid more.
Thus, he said, “I want to basically get the purse that I would get for a title fight, basically. Because the only reason I’m not in a title fight right now is because you choose not to put me there.”
However, the pulling out of ‘Do Bronx’ affected his meeting, too.
Dana White and Hunter Campbell played good cop, bad cop
Following this, the 22-5 record holder admitted the managerial duo of Dana White and Hunter Campbell played good cop and bad cop in the meeting. And Campbell assumed the bad cop role. But a subsequent meeting with the UFC lynchpin assured him of better terms.
Thus, Dariush stated, “It was almost like a good cop, bad cop. I like both guys. Both guys are awesome. Hunter in this situation had to be the bad guy, which is whatever I get it.”
“But afterward, I talked to Dana about different things. But overall, looking back at it, the meeting was good. I’m happy with the meeting,” he added later on.
Notably, Beneil Dariush is currently on an 8-win streak in UFC and coming off a win against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280.
