In his interview on YouTube, considering Covington has already had two attempts at the undisputed Welterweight title, he was asked what he learned from those fights. He said, “I learned a lot from the first two attempts. I learned that you can’t leave it to the judges’ and referee’s decision. The first fight, I think, I really got screwed because of Marc Goddard. He made some egregious calls, some bad, bad calls, you know. Kicked him in the liver, he called a nut shot. The eye poke. Multiple fouls that shouldn’t have been fouls. I got screwed by the Las Vegas screw job.”

Looking back at those fights, Covington explained how they didn’t feel like losses. “You know, I think, now, I’ve just grown and matured a lot from those losses. The second fight with Usman, I feel like I beat him. I thought I had that fight,” he added. After speaking about the Usman fight, the 35-year-old shifted his focus to his next opponent, Leon Edwards.

He said in the interview that the biggest challenge for him is not Edwards’ fighting skills but his cheating skills. According to “Chaos,” “Rocky” cheated in his previous fight against Usman. “[Edwards’ is] always looking for ways to bend the rules and cheat a little bit. So, I think that’s my biggest concern.” With both fighters scheduled to meet at UFC 296, it will be interesting to see how they line up against each other.

The Welterweight title will be on the line when “Rocky” and “Chaos” meet inside the Octagon at UFC 296. Covington will try to win the title after failing to win it on two previous occasions. On the other hand, Edwards would love to keep his winning momentum going when he steps into the Octagon. Although the fighters have not met before, fans can expect a fiery battle on Saturday. Given Covington’s “bend the rules” comment about Edwards, the 35-year-old said, “I hope I see the best Leon on Saturday night.”
