Spotlight always follows the former UFC champion, Conor McGregor. He garnered fame for his exploits both inside and outside the Octagon. The Irishman rose to fame when he became the first UFC fighter to reign over two divisions simultaneously. But fame also subjected him to public scrutiny, and he has been on the wrong side of things too many times. While he captivated fans with his left hook, he also gained notoriety for getting embroiled in legal troubles and controversies. Therefore, justifying his sobriquet, ‘The Notorious’.

Conor McGregor NBA Finals Incident

Enjoying some time off the Octagon since his last fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, ‘Mystic Mac’ recently was in attendance at game 4 of the NBA finals. During halftime, as the game hung in balance between Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets, he joined in on a promotional skit for ‘TIDL Sport’ recovery spray.

The skit ended with Miami Heat mascot Burnie getting taken off the court on a stretcher as he reeled off from two punches from the 34-year-old. The fighter then faced severe backlash for hurting the beloved mascot.

In an interaction with reporters, the Dubliner said, “The mascot’s good, my man. The mascot’s good. It was a skit, and it went the way it went. All is well.”

He continued, “I spent a lot of time with him afterward. We smoothed it out and everyone’s great. It was a skit. It was part of the show my man.”

This clarification might have done little to ease fans’ woes as Miami Heat lost the Finals.

Conor McGregor Driving Violations

In March 2022, the Irish police took the 22-6 record holder into custody as they accused him of “alleged road traffic violations”. His representative, Karen Kessler, told ESPN, “Mr. McGregor was driving to the gym when he was stopped by [Irish police] for alleged road traffic violations.”

This case is proceeding slowly till today, as the legal proceedings are still underway. His run-ins with driving violations date back to 2017 and 2018. He had pleaded guilty to speeding offenses and shelled out hard-earned cash as fines. Not only that, but the authorities also revoked his driving privileges for six months in 2018.

Conor McGregor and his friends crashed the bus with UFC fighters including Khabib

The scenes of the UFC cash cow and his entourage attacking a bus carrying his rival Khabib Nurmagomedov in New York in April 2018 are still fresh in fans’ memories.

Multiple fighters suffered injuries, and the brawl stimulated tensions between the camps of both fighters. The former double champ pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct in July 2018. The sentence slapped on him included performing 5 days of community service and attending anger management classes.

Conor McGregor smashed a phone of a fan and was released on a $5000 bond

The MMA fighter’s public conduct came into question when he smashed the phone of a fan who tried to get a selfie with him in Miami. The incident, which took place in March 2019, resulted in another trip behind bars for the fighter.

He had to buy his freedom with a bond of $5000. While the victim later filed a civil suit, the matter finally was settled in an out-of-court agreement.

Conor McGregor’s Pub Punch that cost him $1000

Another controversy engulfed the UFC star in August 2019 when he was once again taken into custody after he punched an aged man at the Marble Arch Pub in Dublin. The peculiar row popped up when the man declined McGregor’s offer of free drinks of Proper No. 12 whiskey.

The court found him guilty of assault and fined him $1,000.

While McGregor holds the status of a global superstar, his knack for controversies has always bothered his fans. His repute as a troublemaker exceeds his image as a fighter and eclipses his accolades and accomplishments. It remains to be seen when and if McGregor makes his return to Octagon.
