Conor McGregor last entered the cage 4 years ago, in 2021 in what was a gruesome loss against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Since then, he has taken a long break from active competition, instead expanding his businesses from launching his Forged Irish Stout to becoming a part-owner (and full-time promoter) of BKFC. And even without the slightest hint of a return in sight, the question still lingers: When will we see ‘The Notorious’ back in action?

Well, after amid all the pessimism regarding his return to combat, there’s some hope on the horizon! Why do we say this? Simply, from the pictures he uploaded recently on Instagram! He uploaded a carousel of pictures on his profile showcasing him training in boxing inside the ring. However, there were no captions on the post so we do not know yet what these uploads mean. Still, that didn’t stop fans from swarming to the comments section.

Moreover, McGregor was recently challenged by Nate Diaz for a trilogy fight. Diaz has, relative to McGregor, remained active since retiring from MMA, given his boxing stints. However, in a recent statement the Stockton native laid out his intentions saying, “I plan on going back to the UFC. Me and Conor for sure got unfinished business. It’s got to happen I’d like to fight Max Holloway or Ilia Topuria for the BMF.”

So is McGregor planning to come back against Diaz? These pictures do not reveal much. But let’s not get our hopes up on the Diaz vs McGregor trilogy, because the Stockton native announced two opponents apart from ‘The Notorious’ that he wants for the next fight—Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. Given the absurdity of the thought of Diaz facing the latter two names, it was only fitting that we had Uncle Chael chime in on this!

Chael Sonnen’s remark on Nate Diaz’s next fight

Chael Sonnen doesn’t believe the trilogy between Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz will happen next. Nor does he think that Diaz vs. either of the other two names are meaningful matchups of the UFC. But he does think is that we should all take Nate Diaz’s word when he says he wants to make his return.

The ex-UFC star claimed that the fans are not taking Diaz seriously. Sonnen said on his YouTube channel, “You’re not understanding that he’s being authentic and real when he tells you he wants to come do this. This isn’t getting taken seriously.” He further stated, “This is how this industry works. A fighter has an idea, and they bring it to you. And generally, they would go through some kind of reporter, some kind of a media outlet… This is how this works.”
