Francis Ngannou made waves in the MMA community after joining the PFL with a lucrative contract just months after leaving the UFC. However, UFC president Dana White didn’t like the terms regarding the contract details and mentioned that it made no sense to him. Meanwhile, former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub seems to agree with what the 53-year-old promoter had to say about Ngannou’s PFL deal.

Ngannou’s lucrative PFL deal will see him serve as the chairman for the promotion’s expansion in Africa. He reminded everyone how much he wanted to give back to his people. But not everybody is a fan of the other details in his deal with the PFL.

During the post-fight press conference for UFC Vegas 73, Dana White mentioned that he was not a fan of Ngannou’s PFL contract terms. “Based on what I know about the deal, which is not much, it makes no sense to me.”

He also took a dig at Francis Ngannou’s inactivity since UFC 270, and that such kind of business is not what Dana White entertains in the UFC. “You’re gonna pay a guy not to fight for a year, and it’s already been 18 months. He’s fought three times in the last three years. Not what we do here,” said the 53-year-old promoter.

Brendan Schaub sides with the UFC president

During the latest video on his YouTube channel, ‘Big Brown’ sided with what Dana White had to say about Ngannou’s PFL deal. He agrees that from a business point of view, the UFC president made the right call. Francis Ngannou is already 36 years old and hasn’t fought in a while. Schaub even mentioned that the French-Cameroonian fighter returning from the injury makes no sense for the PFL to offer him such a deal. “From a business standpoint, Dana is 100 percent correct,” said Brendan Schaub.

He gave an example of a hypothetical conversation a promoter would have had with an investor about the terms of Ngannou’s contract. “If I came to you and you’re a big-time investor and you have a billion dollars, I go, ‘Here’s the thing dude. I am gonna sign this guy that fights about once a year. He’s 36 [and] coming off a knee injury and we’re gonna give him a portion of the gate. We are gonna guarantee him… $10 million a fight and his opponent gets guaranteed $2 million a fight. I need $300 million to get this done.'”

Schaub then mentioned how the investor would have reacted to the proposition. He said, “You would respond and go, ‘How’re things going right now? Are you selling tickets? Absolutely not. The only thing that would make sense is if he’s gonna fight a big name. Do you have big-name guys on the roster? We don’t.”

Schaub claimed that it is a great deal for Francis Ngannou. But it doesn’t make sense for a promotion to put everything on the line for a fighter who hasn’t competed in a while. However, ‘The Predator’ seems content with what he has been offered by the PFL.
