So, what extra do the gloves really do? According to the UFC head honcho, they have made a lot of upgrades and worked on a lot of complains that the fans and the fighters have had over the years. So, will the new UFC gloves put the eye-poking incidents to rest?

“You know we’ve been working on this for a long time.” White said. “. . . fights have to play out and you have to see how the gloves work in an actual fight and hopefully they do everything they were designed to do which is make the gloves obviously more comfortable.”

“Less hand cramping, hands in a position where there’s less eye pokes. All the sewing on the sides of it that’ll stop cuts.” Clearly, White has had a lot to work on and improve over the years. What do you think about the gloves? Perhaps the change became necessary after the recent Chris Weidman victory.

Weidman was recently present in the Weigh Ins show on the analysis desk all after collecting a controversial victory against Bruno Silva. Weidman managed to initially knock Silva down after poking him in not one but both of his eyes in a quick succession. Following the win, Joe Rogan began speaking about new gloves.

Trevor Whittman is Justin Gaethje’s coach and a brilliant MMA mind. He created the Onyx MMA gloves which help the fighters not get poked in the eye while fighting. Essentially, the gloves allow very little movement of the fingers and encourage a closed fist.

Joe Rogan spoke about how Whittman’s gloves are perhaps the “best” out there. He also revealed that the UFC was talking with Whittman to get his gloves into the promotion but something went wrong with the talks. He said he would get the two parties to speak again.
