Jon Jones is all the rage at UFC right now. He was on a long hiatus because of a pectoral injury and wants his return fight to be against Stipe Miocic. With Dana White gushing over his pound-for-pound status, arguing with the press time and time again about how ‘Bones’ is the GOAT of MMA, Jones is staying in the headlines. Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall is already asking for a fight against Jones after his recent win over Curtis Blaydes. But there is a significantly less-talked-about aspect of that fight.

Now this whole storyline is getting a lot of attention from other UFC veterans, who are speculating whether Jones can even fight after defeating almost three generations of MMA elites. Jones’s biggest rival to date, Daniel Cormier, has added his insights to that question.

Daniel Cormier questions Jon Jones’s prowess after being active for so long

Jon Jones has always been undefeated except for that one DQ loss against Matt Hamill. ‘Bones’ has defeated three generations of fighters including Ciryl Gane, Daniel Cormier, Thiago Santos, Glover Teixeria, Mauricio Rua, Lyoto Machida, and many more. The fighter with a 27-1-0 record is still ready to combat even after a hiatus and a prolific record.

He is already training for his next fight, which looks to be a November bout against Stipe Miocic. However, Daniel Cormier, who has fought him before, is doubtful about his prowess. He said in a recent YouTube video, “When you are speaking of retirement as we have heard Jon do on many occasions, now you don’t really wanna see the next guy. You don’t wanna see that next generation because like he has said multiple times, ‘ I beat so many generations of fighters,’ and that he did. That is what made him great. But can he go through four generations?”

DC also added, “He beat three generations of fighters. Does he have enough in the tank to go through another generation of guys? Does he?” Aspinall has already demanded a matchup against ‘Bones’ and declared that he could defeat him. It seems like some veterans like DC are also doubtful about Jones despite Dana White’s claims.

However former champ Frank Mir sided with Jones. He appreciated Jone’s wins but also added that Aspinall was a great fighter as well and could reach Jone’s level. Meanwhile, he also stated that “Jon has about a 70% to 80%, 90% chance of winning that fight.”

On the other hand, DC also mentioned how the trash-talking between ‘Honey Badger’ and ‘Bones’ might be getting to the latter and we can expect a fight between the two.

Are Jones and Aspinall setting the stage for a generational showdown?

DC said in the same YouTube video that when Jones got angry, he started spewing vulgar and obscene insults at his opponent. He said, “Jon Jones, when he gets mad, he starts to show his true self. He wants to insult you and right now he is insulting Tom Aspinall by saying that he is bl*wing him every week.” Since Cormier has fought the heavyweight champ before he knows the inner workings of his former opponent’s brain.

According to the veteran, ‘Honey Badger’ has started to get to the heavyweight legend. The duo are already going back and forth on social media and interviews and commenting about each other. However, it escalated when Aspinall spoke about Jones trying to fight an older opponent like Miocic rather than choosing him. Jones retaliated with a vulgar comment aimed at Aspinall.

Jones was also not happy about the PED allegations and the repetition of the same by his possible opponent and the fans. “Honestly, none of that will matter a few years from now when I’m covering my kid’s tuition. Are you guys still laughing about what happened at the office, I’m outside on a golf cart,” Jon Jones added to the fan criticisms on social media.

Daniel Cormier still asked the question of whether Jones could overcome the 4th generation of fighters. Dana White is confident that Jones will fight Aspinall after he beats Miocic. Even if that fight happens, can ‘Bones’ beat the Brit? Do you agree with DC or do you side with Dana White who has undying faith in Jones?
