Chael Sonnen has been stirring up controversy with his recent comments about UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. ‘The American Gangster’, known for his ability to generate interest and get fans invested in his fights, went on a constant rant about Shevchenko‘s personality and lack of appeal to sell the show. However, his comments went overboard, and he faced a backlash from ‘Bullet’s loyal fan base. Sonnen remarked that the Russian is supposed to headline the co-main event at UFC 285, but he believes she lacks the wow factor to sell the show. This statement did not sit well with Shevchenko’s supporters, who came to her defense in droves.

The UFC veteran recently appeared on the comedian Andrew Schulz’s podcast and went on record talking about the Russian ‘Bullet’. Chael Sonnen stated, “I watched her on Ariel [Helwani’s show] yesterday, and she’s sitting there, you know, like crisscross applesauce. And she’s telling some story- she’s trying to tell like we’re five-year-olds and like she’s the kindergarten teacher.”

He further continued, “It’s like, girl, strip your clothes off. You got tattoos, supposedly you speak seven languages, man. I’m not even sure if you’ve mastered English, which is speaking to us now.”

Sonnen didn’t just stop there, he also added, “You are not overly impressive and you’re the co-main event above everything else. What do I give a goddamn what you have to say or how many world championships you have [when] you can’t even close out the night?” This didn’t go down very well with Shevchenko‘s fans, who then ripped Sonnen for being disrespectful.
