Months ago, Henry Cejudo shared behind-the-scenes footage of him taking UFC’s hottest new featherweight prospect, Aaron Pico, through the finer points of wrestling techniques. The former U20 U.S. champion listened intently to the master technician’s guidance. The video surfaced about a month after Pico signed with the UFC. Now, as if a dream has finally come true, the scion of one of California’s oldest families will fight on the main card of this year’s blockbuster middleweight clash between Khamzat Chimaev and Dricus Du Plessis.
At Chicago’s United Center, Pico will face Lerone Murphy. Under a growing spotlight, he’s leaving nothing to chance. After sharpening his skills with Cejudo, reports say Pico joined Jon Jones‘ famed stable in New Mexico. Ahead of the much-anticipated bout, here’s a look at the team that will join him in the corner against the unbeaten Englishman.

Who is Aaron Pico’s coach? Where does he train?
Pico’s training team is led by none other than Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn. Fight fans know this is the same duo that helped Jon Jones capture the light heavyweight title at age 23 over a decade ago. And Jones isn’t the only star from their stable. Legends Holly Holm and Georges St-Pierre also refined their skills under Jackson and Winkeljohn’s watchful eye.

Located in Albuquerque, the gym opened in 1992 under Greg Jackson. Mike Winkeljohn joined in 2007, and the gym became JacksonWink MMA. To keep his training multi-dimensional and learn from specialists, Pico also works with other experts outside New Mexico.
From his California base, he reportedly visits Team Bodyshop in Lakewood. For boxing, he turns to Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach at Wild Card Gym, where Manny Pacquiao’s career soared to historic heights. For strength and conditioning, Pico trains at the Treigning Lab in Laguna Hills.

One added benefit of Pico’s diverse training is the chance to work alongside big names. While exact details aren’t clear, social media posts suggest the featherweight prospect trains regularly with Jordan ‘Butters’ Burkholder.
The flyweight fighter even joined Pico at his Morocco training camp, where Pico prepared for the now-canceled Movsar Evloev bout. At Sam Calvitta’s Treigning Lab, Pico also appears to have good company in Arman Tsarukyan. Even event headliner Khamzat Chimaev showed up in one of the photos.
At the UFC 319 media day, Aaron Pico recalled the privilege of training with Tsarukyan and Chimaev. “Well, it was an honor to train with those guys. I think their mindset now—I understand why they’re the best in the world. You know, Arman’s number one, and Khamzat’s fighting for a world championship on Saturday. And, it’s really nice to be around guys that have the same mindset as you,” he said.
