Eddie Alvarez has been one of the best lightweights of recent times. The former UFC and Bellator MMA champion has fought some killers during his career. However, his most famous opponent to date has been Conor McGregor. ‘The Notorious’ provided arguably the best performance of his UFC career in their fight at UFC 205.
When asked if Alvarez would ever train his former opponent, ‘The Underground King’ seemed unsure of his response. When speaking with James Lynch, Alvarez said, “I couldn’t say if there was if there was a heavy dollar amount. I just don’t like personally.”

“I don’t like- I like like being in someone’s camp and helping them like when I’m getting ready for a fight or being in a camp, I enjoy that. But I don’t like taking the role of like, having the allocation of like someone else’s win or loss depend on pain. It’s- it’s the same as a fight for me. And sometimes, if I’m not fighting, I just don’t feel that way anymore,” he added further.
It’s understandable why ‘The Underground King’ has been reluctant about training someone. Whenever a fighter loses, his training partners and coaches are also on the receiving end of rage from the fans. And with a name like McGregor involved, the issue becomes much more prominent. So, one can understand his misgivings.
However, it would have been fascinating to see the duo train together. Alvarez could help McGregor with his wrestling pedigree and improve his overall abilities. ‘The Notorious’ can certainly enrich Alvarez’s striking arsenal with a trick or two of his own.

Was Conor McGregor at his best when he fought Eddie Alvarez?
Alvarez has been a true veteran of the sport, who has been in there with some of the greatest fighters of all time. However, he has never looked as clueless as he looked in his fight against McGregor. ‘The Notorious‘ seemed just too good to handle.
The Irish fighter put on a striking clinic on ‘The Underground King’, and subsequently went on to become the first simultaneous double champion in the UFC. One might argue it was his best performance to date.
