Men don’t speak enough. The responsibilities and the expectations weigh down men, and they never open up about them. And they should, if Jon Jones is to be believed. His message for men doesn’t end here.
While ‘Bones’ is the “baddest” man on the planet, he has his fair share of mental troubles. “It’s the loneliness that gets me,” he once disclosed. Further, he has admitted on numerous occasions that he has anxiety. According to him, an MMA fighter is supposed to be the toughest guy, but he does not need to be the harshest to speak his mind. Citing his example, he details how talking “healed” him.

Jon Jones lays bare his mental health struggles
The heavyweight champion appeared on OverDogsPods and disclosed his recent battles with mental health. When asked about the expectations and the burden of a man doubling up as a father and businessperson, he said, “It’s a real thing, man. It’s a real thing. The mental health aspect is a real thing.” Moreover, the UFC star opened up about how his fiancée helped.
The 36-year-old fighter mentioned he had a situation a couple of days ago. He offloaded all the different things that were on his heart to his fiancee, whether those were expectations or standing before a monster crowd. The Rochester native expressed how little things, such as putting tags on the car, keeping the garage tidy, or training his dog, started to add up.
He stated, “All these little things start to add up on you, and they seem minuscule. But they can really become overwhelming at a certain point, and I was telling my wife that I was embarrassed. Because I have a lot of good problems to have, but I have a lot of sh*t on my plate.”
However, having someone to talk to, and sharing the emotional burden, helps. With Jones, it is his beloved fiancee, Jessie Moses. When the American fighter shared little things and unfinished projects with her, she changed his outlook. “I just felt completely healed after talking with her,” he declared.
Following this, the 27-1-1 record holder pointed out how important mental health was for everybody. A message that his bitter rival, Israel Adesanya, has touched upon and advocated for years.

“It’s important for us to be real, honest about it, and vulnerable. Because that’s where the healing comes for ourselves and others,” Jones added. Hence, according to Jones, it’s necessary to open up and talk about the turmoil so that it doesn’t take a toll on you. It becomes more relevant in a world of uncertainty and chaos, especially for men who still shy away from opening up emotionally.
