Mike Perry has blossomed at the BKFC. The former UFC welterweight had an underwhelming run at the MMA promotion with seven wins and eight losses there. However, in only three fights at the BKFC, he has become the face of the promotion.

This is despite the bare-knuckle league having former UFC stars like former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez on its roster. And BKFC president David Feldman spoke to Noah Lack about ‘Platinum’s rapid rise to stardom in the promotion on our ES exclusive ES FanCast.

Lack asked Feldman if he thought Perry was going to be a big star when he first saw him fight at the BKFC. The latter admitted that he wasn’t sure after the first fight with Julian Lane if the sport would be a good fit for ‘Platinum’.

“I didn’t. I did after his second fight with Mike [Michael Page]. I was like he’s gonna be a superstar now. But after the first fight, I wasn’t sure if this sport was for him a hundred per cent,” the BKFC president said.

However, he added that he turned around and saw the potential in him after his second bare-knuckle fight. Perry took on Michael ‘Venom’ Page at BKFC 27 in the latter’s hometown of London. Perry emerged victorious after six rounds. He defeated Luke Rockhold in his last bout at BKFC 41.

“And then he came right back and he fought MVP: Michael ‘Venom’ Page in his hometown in London, England. And beat him in a six round war. And then he came out and stopped Luke Rockhold… He personifies bare-knuckle. He’s just a rough-though dude. He talks the talk, he walks the walk,” he said on our exclusive ES exclusive FanCast.

One take at a time

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
