Joe Rogan is a very strong advocate of combat sports and fitness in general. Prior to joining the UFC, he had a varied career that included stand-up for a long time as well as early competitions in Taekwondo and kickboxing, where he had achieved several notable victories. The 55-year-old is unquestionably one tough individual. However, in his latest podcast episode, he disclosed a time from his competitive days when he was viciously TKO’d in a kickboxing bout. It was a tough experience for him.

Given the way Joe Rogan is typically portrayed, it is difficult to imagine him being TKO’d. But it is indeed true.

Joe Rogan recounts suffering a nasty TKO

The UFC commentator discussed a time when he suffered a devastating TKO in a kickboxing match during episode #1907 of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. The podcast host’s painful memory was rekindled when Rogan and the guests discussed concussions and how commonly they occur.

Speaking of concussions, Rogan said, “I’ve had a lot of them. I know I’ve had a lot of them. I have never been knocked unconscious, but I got TKO’d in a kickboxing match. That’s definitely one.”

He further elaborated how it all went down, “It was a punch. And then I got dropped to the left hook. Then he finished me off with an uppercut, and then I got up.”

Joe Rogan wasn’t knocked out cold, but based on the way he recounted what happened, it must have hurt him badly. However, the UFC commentator has been practicing martial arts for a long time, but stopped competing a long time ago.

According to Rogan, being bullied as a child was one of the main motivators for him to start practicing martial arts. After that, he started training in different fight forms and attained black belts in taekwondo and jiu-jitsu. At 55, Rogan can still give a lot of young fighters a run for their money.
