‘He’s Just a Regular Fighter’- Kamaru Usman Trashes ‘Loudmouth’ Conor McGregor

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman spoke to ESPN MMA’s Ahora O Nunca and ran through a gauntlet of topics. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, who has become an established figure in the sport, continually pops up on various platforms. Usman commented on the state of the contenders in the division and also detailed his disdain for Conor McGregor.
Chiefly, Kamaru Usman provided an interesting take on ‘The Notorious’ who has a fight coming up soon. McGregor has inserted himself into the fabric of MMA once more, as this is his second fight in 6 months. Usman not only detailed possibly fighting McGregor, but he also shed light on the way his contemporaries viewed the former champion.

Have Conor McGregor’s passed accolades passed him by?
When asked about possibly fighting McGregor, the welterweight champion explained that the decision was in McGregor’s hands. More interesting was Usman’s take on the way fighters today didn’t respect McGregor the same way as when he was coming up. Usman believes that the Irishman’s ‘champ-champ’ status has now passed him in the rearview mirror.
“Loudmouth. He does more talking now than he does fighting… If he wants to fight me, he knows where to find me. He can call me and we’ll make that fight happen. Right now, it’s more of a loudmouth. He’s a loudmouth He’s a guy that can compete, but he’s not the champion, Conor McGregor.“

“He’s not the double champion, he’s not that guy anymore. He’s just a guy that’s in the UFC. If he wasn’t Conor, hasn’t done the things that he’s done, then he would just be a regular fighter. The level of respect he gets now, he’s just a regular fighter with a lot of money and lot of hype and recognition, but the old Conor, the hungry Conor, that was the fighter that fighters respected.”
Kamaru Usman has definitely laid down the seeds for a potential bout with the biggest money fighter that the sport has to offer. If things fall into place, and McGregor captures the lightweight belt, it’s possible that ‘The Notorious’ looks towards welterweight. He’s already competed at 170-pound a few times and etched a couple of wins.
