Holly Holm made history when she defeated the women’s MMA icon, Ronda Rousey, at UFC 193. It was a women’s bantamweight title bout between two undefeated fighters that ended via brutal head kick knockout. Subsequently, the UFC wanted Holm to fight Rousey in a rematch.
However, instead of waiting for ‘Rowdy’, Holm took on the next challenger in the line. She fought Miesha Tate, who broke her undefeated record with a final round a rear-naked choke. Holm has not won a title match since then.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ opened up about her decision to not fight Ronda Rousey in a rematch. Holly Holm said, “Now my MMA game is lot more well-rounded than it was when I fought her. And I know there was a lot of talk of wait for the rematch with Ronda. But the rematch with Ronda would have gone the same as the first. And I am one of those that I don’t like to make my entire career on one person.”

Holm continued, “I wanted to keep challenging myself as a fighter. So it made sense to me to take whatever challenge was next at the time. I can’t ever go back and say, oh I regret doing that. Maybe that helped me learn even more after that fight to be able to be the better fighter I am today.”
Holly Holm became a well-rounded fighter after losing to Miesha Tate
Holly Holm doesn’t have any regrets about not fighting Ronda Rousey in a rematch, even though Holm believed she would have won the second encounter. ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ took the Miesha Tate fight because she wanted to take on new challenges to evolve as a fighter.
