‘I Think it Sounds Crazy’- Miesha Tate Targeting Amanda Nunes Fight in July 2022

Former Strikeforce and UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is set to make a return to the Octagon on July 17th. ‘Cupcake’ fight Marion Reneau in the 135lbs division. She hasn’t competed since her UFC 205 decision loss to Raquel Pennington.
However, Tate is looking forward to a rematch against Amanda Nunes already despite her long absence. Speaking to Ariel Helwani recently, she gave a timeline of her expectation of a possible date for that fight.
“I think it sounds crazy. But I think it could be as little as two wins. I think two solid wins, if I have really good performances and I win you know I do well, I can see Amanda be my third fight.

“I could see a year from now. To be honest, I could see July International fight week. I could see that,” said Tate.
“I could see more obviously. I would say between two or three but I’d say the least would be two,” she further added. The former champion recognizes she has a lot of ground to make to reach the level Nunes is currently at. Also, she will need some time to get rid of the ring rust of her prolonged absence from competition.
Tate is not overlooking her next opponent in any way. ‘Cupcake’ recognizes that she will have her hands full upon her return. “There’s a lot of ground to cover before I get to that point of course. I’ve got to stay really focused of course on Marion Reneau because she could spoil your night real fast. And she’s a really good fighter,” Tate said further.

‘The Lioness‘ is currently running out of challenges. She has already cleaned out the thin featherweight division. Nunes also has defeated almost all comers at the 135lbs division as well. Adding to that, the current state of the UFC’s women’s bantamweight division is really shallow.
So, Tate’s return will not only pose a new challenge for the champion but also her name-value will certainly bring more eyeballs back at the division. ‘Cupcake’ is a fighter who fans cherish to watch always. On her day, she is a world-beater. Whether Tate still has that same level of pedigree left in her, remains to be seen.
