This was when speculation began over the name ‘Machado’, which was connected to Gary’s wife, Layla Anna-Lee. Fans began to spread rumors that ‘Machado’ was the surname of her ex-husband Richard Cullen and that the UFC fighter had taken his last name.

The 40-year-old TV presenter came on Instagram to clear all doubts about the controversy regarding the name ‘Machado’. She started by talking about how in the UFC 298 press conference, someone in the crowd shouted obscene words about Garry’s wife a.k.a herself, while she was present there. She also addressed how Sean Strickland and Colby Covington ripped into Garry for using her ex-husband’s surname. Layla also mentioned ‘lazy consumerism’ and the media for clickbait articles that put fuel into these ‘lies’.

After that, she described the first lie and said, “Let’s begin with lie number 1. Ian took his wife’s ex-husband’s surname. I can’t believe anyone would accept this to be true, but the MMA community picked it up and ran a full marathon with it.” She explained that ‘Machado’ is her maiden name, and they added their names together when the couple got married. Meanwhile, lie number two was that Anna-Lee’s ex Richard Cullen, lives with them which was again denied by her. However, Richard Cullen, her ex-husband, is Garry’s nutritionist, which is a unique turn of events after all the controversy.

The fans are not the only people who gobbled up the rumors about her ex-husband and her maiden name. Colby Covington and Sean Strickland were also in the mix, mocking Garry for choosing his wife’s maiden name. During the build-up to his fight against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 previously, Covington had said some very questionable things about Garry’s wife. This made ‘The Future’ call him out and Garry clashed with ‘Chaos’ on social media giving him a chilling warning.

The highly sought-after UFC prospect made headlines after winning at UFC 298, but it was not just for his performance inside the Octagon. Garry is known for his bold remarks and he wasted no time in targeting former welterweight title challenger Colby Covington.

The post-fight interview saw him state, “There’s one guy I want next and I’ve been saying his name all week, his name is Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington, that guy is on a 3-fight skid against world champions and I wanna retire you from the UFC Colby.” This remark came after Covington had made Garry’s wife his target with some questionable remarks in the pre-fight press conference.

Covington recently reignited the rivalry, naming three stipulations for granting Garry an opportunity at ‘Chaos.’ In response to these unflattering demands, Garry called for a WWE-style ‘I Quite’ match, promising to send Covington into retirement.
