Conor McGregor’s coach and Straight Blast Gym’s owner, John Kavanagh, is one of the most recognizable entities in the UFC. The premier trainer is a representative of ‘The Notorious’ and is a part of McGregor’s closely-knit circle. Meanwhile, Kavanagh recently revealed that he is a huge fan of McGregor’s former rival and UFC legend Jose Aldo.
In a conversation with Ariel Helwani at The MMA Hour, the coach stated that the 35-year-old’s recent performances have astounded him. John Kavanagh said, “Look what Aldo’s done. He’s come back completely reinvigorated at 135 and he’s looking world-class. He’s looking like a champion beater. And if he gets that Dillashaw fight, I think we’ll really see just how far he’s come since then.”

Their collision at UFC 194 back in 2015 still remains one of the most memorable fights in all of MMA. Interestingly, McGregor accomplished the impossible as he swiftly demolished the champion in 13 seconds with a hard left. Despite McGregor’s quick win, Kavanagh named that fight as a regret.

In the same chat with Helwani, he said, “So there was nobody that was a bigger fan of that team and Aldo specifically than me. And in the lead-up to that fight, I had many sleepless nights looking at those leg kicks and his takedown defense and his speed and his technique and his experience. And I somewhat regretted how the fight went because I would have loved to see the clash of styles and some more exchanges.”
