Charles Oliveira has a record of 34-10-0 while Khabib Nurmagomedov boasts of a record of 29-0-0. Oliveira has undoubtedly cemented his name in the lightweight category of UFC. He managed to finish Beneil Dariush, Justin Gaethje, and Dustin Poirier who all are amazing fighters. On the other hand, Nurmagomedov has also defeated Gaethje and Poirier. Now the question that Chael Sonnen had was who is the better fighter between the two?

According to Uncle Chael, Khabib might have a dent in his career, which was overlooked by many.

In a recent YouTube video, Sonnen addressed whether Khabib was better or Oliveira. He was talking about Islam Makhachev vs Nurmagomedov, which is interesting but given their relationship, it is “weird” as well. The UFC legend mentioned how the brothers should not fight, but the idea of “who is better” always lives in people’s minds. They are not biological brothers but share almost a similar bond. Now the same is true with Charles Oliveira and Khabib Nurmagomedov. He accused the fans and the media of overlooking a very minute detail about both of their careers.

Sonnen thinks Oliveira is better, and his reason includes Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier, “Charles Oliveira beat them by a combined 1 minute and 52 seconds faster than Khabib did. And nobody grabbed that, and nobody, I don’t know if they didn’t have that number I brought it to you guys.” He further stated, “And it wasn’t to prove that Charles was better than Khabib right they’d have to go head to head to prove that it’s to annoy the people that want to have the conversation and give it to Khabib. Like it is a major dent in the armor.”

The 47-year-old claimed that there was a bar to beat Poirier, which is the second round 7 minutes in. “That is why Islam vs Poirier, that is what they are testing right here. We have a bar to beat Poirier. It was the second round, just over the 7-minute mark,” Sonnen reckoned. The retired professional also brought in the Islam vs Khabib argument and recommended a stopwatch to see who was faster in defeating their opponent. He revealed that Islam versus Poirier is also being tested.

Meanwhile, Poirier has declared that he might retire, so these scores and numbers might not matter in the end

Dustin Poirier gives a spoiler about his retirement

In a recent podcast of ‘The Fight Bananas Show LIVE,’ Poirier addressed the question of his retirement. ‘The Diamond’ said, “When I hear that I am with you. I’m aligned with that. This is the last chapter. I wanna finish this story and close this book, you know, but nothing is guaranteed.” He also added that he has a life outside the octagon with his family and his several businesses.

As per Poirier, he still has a lot of fuel left in him, but the Makhachev fight might be his last if he wins. The 35-year-old has been fighting since he was 17 and now he wants to concentrate on his personal life.
