What comes to your mind when you hear the name Colby Covington? The silver tongue trash-talking right? I’m the supervillain of this division. I’m the supervillain of the whole UFC,” he had said during an interview with MMA Weekly back in 2018. The Clovis native channeled his inner Chael Sonnen to great impact when he realized that good fights were not going to get him the spotlight. Despite that, he finds himself in a rough patch both in and out of the Octagon right now.

Despite having Sonnen and his team beside him, he lost to Joaquin Buckley suffering a deadly eyelid gash that has derailed his plans to return to the title picture for the near future. Adding to his woes, Islam Makhachev has sprinkled salt to his wounds with a brutal response to Covington’s weight-bullying accusations. For the unversed, ‘Chaos’ had previously branded Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov as “weight bullies”.

The Dagestani had a succinct answer ready for poking fun at Covington’s trash-talking. While speaking to Yuka MMA, he said, “A man who cannot prove anything with his fights so tries to be well known with his tongue. He does not talk about fighters who are not in the top 15. What about fighters who have achieved a lot to get some attention? So that journalists ask others about him he wants the hype. This is “trash talk”. And he’s one of the Masters of trash talk. It is not true that he does not cut weight. Everyone cuts weight.”

Covington had previously made the mistake of criticizing the Hall of Famer and his prodigy allegedly claiming that they were “squeezing chromosomes” during weight cuts. Back in 2023, ‘Chaos’ quipped,Khabib and Islam were squeezing chromosomes out of their bodies during their weight cut. These guys are huge lightweights. They are bigger than me, even though I fight in a higher weight class.”

But does this stop Covington from going all in with his famous persona? Not at all. He showed his confident side in the latest video and showed his excitement for a comeback in the future.
