Israel Adesanya has captivated millions of UFC fans around the world with his thrilling finishes and exhilarating fight style. ‘The Last StyleBender’ was one of the most dominant champions until recently when he suffered the ignominy of being bested by rival Alex Pereira. The former middleweight champion is taking a brief break from MMA to focus on his recuperation and recovery.

Adesanya is known for his unwavering confidence in the octagon and has, in many instances, taunted his opponent to entertain the UFC faithful. The 33-year-old in an interview with GQ recollected an instance due to which he gained the confidence to perform in front of the public.

Despite Israel Adesanya’s theatrics inside the octagon, it will surprise fans to learn that the kickboxer was a shy kid. The former UFC champion pointed out an instance that gave him the courage to express himself. “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” by Michael Jackson. It’s a long song, and I danced the whole thing. And, uh, I shouldn’t have, in hindsight.”

The Nigerian-born fighter then talked about how much he enjoyed his own performance. “I definitely should have cut it short. But I didn’t know how to perform or have stage presence. So I just got on stage and then people were like, ‘The f**k is he doing on stage? What are you going to do?’” added Adesanya.

Adesanya further revealed that he went on to claim the main prize later on. “I killed that one. Won a hundred bucks.” The New Zealander will turn his attention back to the octagon, but who’s next for the former champion?

Israel Adesanya’s four-year reign as the top dog ended in stunning fashion. The upheaval shook the middleweight division and fans will be eager to witness what the 33-year-old can do to climb to the top again. The obvious match-up for Adesanya is the rematch with Alex Pereira.

The champion expressed his prediction for the rematch, although it is doubtful whether the respective fighters’ timeline for a return matches up. One thing is for sure. The timid kid who didn’t have confidence in himself will not be the one stepping foot into the octagon.
