Joe Rogan has made a ‘terrifying’ observation about the pace of AI development and its involvement in human society. The JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) podcast is known by the fans for its exploration of cutting-edge topics like AI and the rise of models like ChatGPT. In episode no. 2044 of the podcast, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the organization behind the creation of ChatGPT, made an appearance on the show. He revealed that in the future, advanced AI models can form a “symbiotic relationship” with humanity.

However, during a recent conversation with Duncan Trussell on the JRE episode no. 2078, the conversation touched upon the implications the rise of AI can have on human civilization. And in an honest confession, Rogan stated that we have “no idea what’s going to survive” once artificial intelligence goes fully online!

The conversation surrounding AI is not new for the fans of the JRE podcast. In a past episode of the show, Joe Rogan featured guests, Aza Raskin and Tristan Harris, co-founders of the Center for Humane Technology. Their conversation touched upon the challenges of controlling the dissemination of AI models like ChatGPT, emphasizing their intricate nature and potential consequences.

As such, during the conversation with Duncan Trussell, he mentioned how the advent of AI is akin to “…culturally a meteor that is smashing into the Earth soon.”

This prompted Rogan to exclaim, “Really soon, yeah, and we have no idea what’s going to survive, we have no idea what kind of a reimagining of civilization will occur when this thing goes fully online” and also cite AI’s ability to learn and adapt independently, using the example of its mastery of complex games like Go.

The podcast host then pointed out AI’s capacity for deception as he revealed, “…if it can do that, if it can lie about the captcha things, those things like are you a robot, it knows how to lie about that it says I’m vision impaired. It’s deceptive.”

These insights shed light on the complex relationship between AI and humanity. As society grapples with the ethical and practical implications of AI integration, Rogan’s discussions catalyze broader discourse on the subject.

In the aforementioned conversation with Raskin and Harris, the listeners of the JRE were also given a glimpse at how difficult it is to control AI technology once it’s made available to the public.

Rogan’s guest gives an interesting analogy between AI models and Taylor Swift

During episode 2076 of the JRE, Aza Raskin and Tristan Harris delved into the risks associated with the widespread availability of AI and models like ChatGPT. Harris compared Facebook’s approach to releasing AI models to sharing a Taylor Swift song on Napster, highlighting the irreversible nature of such releases.

He stated, “It’s sort of like releasing a Taylor Swift song on Napster. Once you put that AI model out there, it can never be brought back right, like imagine the music company saying, like, I don’t want that Taylor Swift song going out there.”

The analogy underscored the challenge of controlling the dissemination of AI models once released, emphasizing their intricate nature and potential consequences. As technology continues to advance rapidly, discussions like these are crucial in navigating AI’s integration into society responsibly.
