Jon Jones makes his return to the UFC at UFC 285, where he will face off against Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight title. However, the mind games have already begun as Gane claims that he only starts training after his fight announcement. Jones has been quick to call out Gane, stating that he’s not buying into the fact that he only trains before fights. Interestingly, this is how the American himself used to prepare earlier in his career.

In a recent tweet, Jon Jones claims that his feud with Daniel Cormier was officially over. In addition, Jones even states that he respects the current UFC commentator as a fighter. Despite this, Jones and Cormier’s rivalry will remain one of the biggest in MMA history. Moreover, he also said that his ‘no contest’ result against Cormier should be overturned.

Brandon Gibson reveals how Jones was training

Jon Jones was the youngest UFC champion when he won the UFC light heavyweight title. He was so talented and gifted that ‘Bones’ barely trained before fights. One of the Jones’ coaches from his camp talked about this.

He said, “Jon’s been pretty open about this—he wouldn’t train at all in the offseason, He’d show up to the gym after a couple of months on his couch. Jon used to show up to camp and we’d spend four of the weeks getting into shape.

That would leave us with just three weeks of fight-specific training. Then we’d be on the road for fight week. We’d be super crunched for time every fight.” He further added.

Not only this, but Jones even said that he was partying and not taking things seriously as a coping mechanism. Jones was a young prodigy fighting deadly heavyweight fighters. If he lost, he wanted to give that as an excuse. But he never lost. Time will tell if Gane can have the same level of success Jones did with their similar training routines.
