The fight had the markings of an amusing contest when Daniel Cormier pointed out that Lucindo took the longest walkout to the cage in Apex history. UFC Stats and Info verified this. While Viana was coming into the fight on the heels of a statement win against J. Frey, Lucindo had just collected her first win in the promotion.

What happened in the fight at UFC Vegas 78?

Viana opened the proceedings with a high-body kick, but Lucindo returned the favor with a counter jab. Both fighters exchanged blows, and then Viana took the fight to the ground. However, Lucindo clinched Viana and stalled the fight, never allowing the latter to control the fight. After the referee broke the two, the fight briefly stayed on the feet. But it was Lucindo who won the clinching contest and looked to work out a knee bar. Big hammer fights also boosted the scores as the first round came to a close.

But when Lucindo unleashed some ground-and-pound, Viana gave her an opening. Lucindo pounced on it and finally worked out an arm triangle, which made her opponent tap.
