‘It’s Too Risky for GSP’ – Daniel Cormier Expresses His Fear for a Fight Between George St Pierre and Oscar De La Hoya

Georges St-Pierre is one of the greatest fighters of all time. He hasn’t fought since 2017, but he is mulling a comeback. Interestingly, a possible boxing match against the great Oscar De La Hoya is in the works. However, the former UFC champion and commentator, Daniel Cormier, doesn’t think that it’s a good idea.
He talked about it on his show with Ariel Helwani. “I gotta be honest, I don’t know,” Cormier said on the DC & Helwani show. “I think it’s too risky for us as a community to have a guy like Georges St-Pierre boxing Oscar De La Hoya. Great for ‘GSP’ in terms of the money that he will make but too risky,” he explained.

Cormier’s point was based on the risks involved for GSP in a possible fight. It’s a lose-lose situation for the Canadian martial artist as even if he wins, he won’t look too good after beating a 48-year-old De La Hoya. On the flip side, the possibility of a loss is huge as De La Hoya is a talented boxer, and GSP is not known for his striking.
Daniel Cormier doesn’t believe that GSP can beat Oscar De La Hoya in a boxing match
If the greatest MMA fighter of all time doesn’t win against a retired boxer, it will be a bad look for the sport. Cormier added that he doesn’t believe that GSP can beat De La Hoya in a boxing match. He brought up the American boxer’s Olympic gold medal as a testament to his greatness.

“You can not possibly believe Georges St-Pierre beats Oscar De La Hoya in a boxing match. Does not matter, dude’s an Olympic champ boxer. No, man. That’s why I don’t want to see it. It’s too risky. Maybe GSP does win, but I don’t believe he does, so whatever. Might as well not do it,” Cormier concluded.

Besides being an Olympic champion, De La Hoya has won multiple titles at different weight classes. He is one of the greatest boxers of all time, and GSP shouldn’t risk his legacy for a potential payday.
