Very few fighters in UFC have a dominant run like the one Ronda Rousey had. People would flock to the arena with a clock in their hand and then would time Rowdy’s knockout duration. Notably, the former Olympian only faced the second round thrice in her UFC career. The knockout prowess of the former UFC champion also prompted the noted MMA personalities to float a ‘stupid idea’. However, the fearsome fighter’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars, junked the idea and put a lid on it.

The initial floaters of the idea were the color commentator, Joe Rogan, and UFC lynchpin, Dana White. Remarkably, the idea of pitting Rousey against a man in the Octagon sounded absurd and remained a distant dream for fans for obvious reasons.

What did De Mars say about Ronda Rousey facing a man in the cage?

The MMA fighter-turned-WWE star went 12-0 in her initial run and also defend her titles staggering 7 times. The famed judoka’s legacy remained as one of the most feared knockout artists.

Before the eventual bout at UFC 184, the UFC head honcho opened Pandora’s box. Thus, he jokingly stated, “She’s [Ronda Rousey] gonna have to start fighting men if she walks through Cat Zingano.”

“Seriously, that’s a stupid idea. I’m as much a feminist as anyone, but the fact is that biologically, there’s a difference between men and women. Hello. Duh. A woman who is 135 pounds and a man who is 135 pounds are not physically equal,” AnnMaria De Mars declared regarding the controversy.

The UFC commentator followed the suit after he appeared on The Dan LeBatard Show. Further, the famed stand-up comic claimed that Rowdy could beat 50% of the male bantamweights in the UFC. Besides, the 55-year-old clarified that it was not a joke.

Notably, this statement came after the 38-year-old athlete defeated Cat Zingano at UFC 184. Significantly, the win via submission came within 14 seconds of the first round.

While the fighter failed to bounce back from her two successive losses against Holly Holm at UFC 193, and Amanda Nunes at UFC 207,
the Olympic medalist deserved all accolades she earned.

After her loss at UFC 207, the 12-2 record holder hung her MMA gloves in 2016 and subsequently transitioned to WWE in 2018.
