When you speak of Brazilian MMA icons, who comes to mind first? For most modern-day fans, it would be “The King of Rio” himself—José Aldo. In his prime, the former featherweight champion was an absolute force of nature (and let’s be honest, he still is). Undefeated for nearly a decade, Aldo’s reign only met its match when he crossed paths with Conor McGregor. But beyond the knockouts and title defenses, Aldo also happens to have one of the most heartwarming love stories in the fight game.
The former two-time featherweight champion with seven title defenses has carved out a legendary path in the MMA world, marked by both glory and grit. At the heart of his journey is Vivianne Perreira—his wife, partner, and unwavering pillar of strength. More than just a figure in the background, Vivianne has been a constant through Aldo’s wars in the cage and milestones outside of it. Let’s get to know his family a little better, shall we?

Perreira faced fertility struggles, from egg freezing to heartbreaking miscarriages, before finally welcoming their second child. Yet through it all, her love for Aldo and her dream of giving Joanna a sibling never wavered. In addition to being a brown belt in BJJ, Vivianne has two professional Muay Thai fights to her name, giving her firsthand insight into the demands and discipline required in combat sports. She and Jose Aldo have supported each other through the ups and downs of his career. Their longstanding relationship has left the fans awestruck.
While having a conversation with fightersonlymag.com, Aldo humorously recalled how his wife initially may not have been enamored with him. He felt as if she “didn’t really like him” and may have considered it a charitable gesture to help him get out of a life in the ‘favela’ or slums of Brazil. Vivianne Perreira admitted that she didn’t find José Aldo irresistibly handsome at first. Yet, what began with uncertainty blossomed into a love story filled with authenticity, laughter, and resilience. Now that Jose Aldo is back inside the Octagon, he might need the support of his better half, just like the old times. Will her support get him his next win at UFC 315?
