He explains the conversation with Dana White “I told Dana ‘Brother, I have to give him this belt because I don’t lose belt’” asking him permission to wrap the belt. Because, according to Nurmagomedov, he was still the UFC Lightweight champion, as nobody managed to defeat him. Also, The Eagle handing it over to his father’s favorite student would mean that he’s carrying the legacy forward, and said “Because I know, I’m the champion… till this day before Islam became champion.”

To which the UFC boss responded, “No problem.” “This is yours. This is Dagestani belt.” and said he had no issues with the coach wrapping it around the champion. White understood and acknowledged the reign of the Dagestani fighters in the UFC by making this statement. It elated Nurmagomedov to hear this acknowledgment coming from the UFC boss himself.
