The biggest state of all, the biggest event in UFC history, and Bo Nickal showcased his class as he racked up an impressive win against Cody Brundage at UFC 300. As expected, the fight was fought on the mat instead of on the feet. While many applauded the wrestling acumen of the two, Khamzat Chimaev was not impressed.

The fight lacked explosive punches, and you can imagine the flavor of the fight, as the victor had a control time of over 7 minutes, despite the fight ending in the second round. The 3x NCAA champion wrestler had the toughest fight of his UFC career, as he struggled to gain mounting position. But he eventually succeeded, took Brundage’s back, and finished the fight with a rear-naked choke at 3:38 in the second round. However, it seems the Swedish fighter, who himself has a wrestling background, didn’t rate Nickal’s efforts.

Chimaev, 29, turned to his X handle and threw shade at Nickal. He had replied to a UFC post, calling him a rising star. ‘Borz’ wrote, “This wrestling was big bullsh*t.”

Notably, this was the American wrestler’s longest outing in the UFC. He had made quick work of his past opponents, with all of his wins coming in the first round. He had barely been scratched in his previous two fights. While Nickal improved his record to 6-0, this fight gave him a reality check. It’s something he realized after the fight and explained to Joe Rogan in the post-fight Octagon interview.

Bo Nickal is embarrassed by his performance

The middleweight fighter admitted he was embarrassed with his performance against Brundage. He wanted to dominate his opponent, but it didn’t happen. However, it turned out to be a steep learning curve for him. He told Rogan, “I feel like I’m a little bit embarrassed with that performance. I expect to go out there and completely dominate and shut this guy out. I was able to have that experience under my belt now. He came out to fight, which is great. And for me, it’s a great learning experience.”

Following this, Nickal extended his gratitude to all the people who supported him. He then asserted he wanted more experience and to keep fighting, winning, and climbing up the ladder. Lastly, he declared, “Take anybody in the division, I’m coming for you guys.”
