‘Let’s Go Be an Olympic Champion’- Kamaru Usman Explains How He Sets Goals

UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, is one of the biggest stars in the entire promotion at the moment. His stock rose even higher after a statement knockout win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. Usman, a lifelong athlete, has set new goals for himself throughout his career and has achieved them one by one.
In a chat with True Geordie, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ explained his motive behind always raising the bar for himself. He even went on to draw comparisons with Conor McGregor, another superstar who is always pursuing new goals in his life and in his career in general.

“I worked so hard, I set this goal and I worked so hard to achieve this ultimate goal. Which is what I think certain guys like a Conor McGregor, some of these guys has set that ultimate goal. Then they get there and it’s like, alright, that’s it, I have done it. For me, I got there I am sitting like, what’s next?” said Usman.
“Alright, let’s go be an Olympic champion. Literally that night I decided what’s the next goal was. Let’s go be an Olympic champion. And then I pursued that. And that’s just kind of being the recipe to repeat for me all throughout life. And that’s who I am now,” he added further.
Usman has reached the pinnacle of the sport after years of struggle. And given his current dominant form, it’s highly unlikely he would do anything but remain at the top for years to come.
What’s next for Kamaru Usman in the UFC?

Usman is expected to defend his title next against former foe Colby Covington. The dup previously fought at UFC 245. The clash was touted to be one of the best title fights in the history of the UFC. Usman eventually managed to earn the win after a back-and-forth contest over the course of 5 rounds.

No official date for the fight has been announced yet. However, the duo is expected to square off before the end of the year. What date the promotion chooses to proceed with, remains to be seen.
