UFC commentator Joe Rogan is one of the most popular celebrities on the planet. He is a martial artist, a stand-up comedian, and a popular podcast host, who is skilled with his words and his fists. There are several viral clips of Rogan’s martial arts skills on the internet. One of those clips involving former UFC heavyweight champion Mark Coleman, did quite a few rounds on social media.
In the clip, Rogan and Coleman were wrestling when Rogan got pushed into a wall. It seemed like Rogan was not a match for the former heavyweight champion in the altercation. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen seems to have some inside knowledge on the contrary.

Sonnen says Coleman found out Joe Rogan is tough
Chael Sonnen is a master of words and a very skilled storyteller. In a video recently uploaded to his YouTube channel, Sonnen talks about Rogan’s martial arts skills and the tussle between Rogan and Mark Coleman. Sonnen added some missing pieces to the story in his own words. According to him, there is more to the story than what is evident in the clip.
Sonnen recounted Rogan’s martial arts background- Rogan is a black belt in Taekwondo and practices high-level jiu-jitsu. Sonnen said, having expert knowledge in martial arts and being able to use it were two different things. According to Sonnen, Rogan isn’t someone who just knows about martial arts but is a skilled practitioner, too.

Sonnen credited Rogan for being able to implement his knowledge and skills in real-life situations. “He was a black belt in Taekwondo. He gets into jiu-jitsu, he buddies up with Eddie Bravo, which is a very hard system… He’s into lifting weights, he’s into being in good shape. I’m just saying that’s a tough night out. Mark Coleman found that out.”

Sonnen also added that Rogan’s reputation as a legit martial artist is why he doesn’t receive death threats and such from internet trolls. Because of his skills, Coleman realized that Rogan isn’t your average Joe.
Sonnen on the beginning of Rogan’s martial arts journey
Chael Sonnen explained to his listeners the beginning of Joe Rogan’s martial arts journey. Sonnen was recounting a story that Rogan himself told on his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience. In the story, a 14-year-old Rogan had an altercation with another kid who put him in a headlock. Rogan did not know what to do in the situation and realized he needed to go get some martial arts training.
