What is happening with Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones? Will we ever get to witness their title unification bout? If the same question is plaguing your mind, then welcome to the club. In the chaotic world of UFC heavyweights, Aspinall is the epitome of patience and optimism even in uncertainty. The interim heavyweight champion, who broke Renan Barao’s record for longest reigning UFC interim champion, made it clear that he is ready to fight Jones. However, the ‘when’ is the main question.

While ‘Bones’ is busy with a new fight reality show in Thailand, Aspinall is keeping up with his training —be it with Angry Ginge or with the ‘world’s’ strongest man’ Tom Stoltman. He is also keeping a positive outlook on this fight and mentioned his reason before. Aspinall, still waiting for the title unification, revealed his idea on staying positive since he is not in his late 30s. “I’m quite lucky in that regard because I don’t feel like I have a lot of miles on the clock, and 32 is quite young for a heavyweight, but I would fight if I could,” the interim champion told Demetrious Johnson on the latter’s YouTube channel.
He also reiterated another piece of news amid the lull about their fight. While speaking to ‘Mighty Mouse’, he said, “Yeah, I mean don’t get me wrong, I would fight if I could, like, if I could fight this month or next month it would be perfect, but it’s not gonna happen right now. But the positive of that is, as you said, if you’re so for a heavyweight, then it’s a little bit less, but we don’t have as many guys. We get injured with more stuff like that. So probably twice a year is quite is maximum for a heavyweight usually. 3 times a year is a little bit of a push, so if I could fight every six months, that’s perfect.”

Meanwhile, Jones decided to stir the pot again, issuing a scathing remark to Aspinall via X. He responded to the Brit’s latest interview with Johnson and posted, “Shut your mouth and do as you’re told.” Why this jibe, though? It’s because Aspinall told Johnson he was not waiting for Jones and simply wanted a chance to be recognized as the undisputed champion. The only holdup now is Jones, but his arch rival, Daniel Cormier, has a completely different perspective on the whole ordeal.

Daniel Cormier shows a silver lining for Jones vs Aspinall
Recently, Jones had replied to a fan when they asked about the hold-up. He said that he had “already told the UFC” his plans and was puzzled why the promotion did not inform the fans about it. So this remark gave hope to DC that the fight might eventually happen at Madison Square Garden.
“To me, that’s hope that they’re going to fight, and if there is a card that warrants that level of fight, it’s Madison Square Garden. So do they fight there, and, like you said, I wouldn’t be surprised if he beat Tom Aspinall if I’m being completely honest,” ‘DC’ told Chael Sonnen on the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast on ESPN MMA.

However, Jones’ reply to the fan does not specify what he said to UFC, so there’s a lot of room for speculation. Aspinall is a pretty top-notch and dangerous stylistic matchup for Jones. The Brit is younger, physically bigger, and stronger than the undisputed champion. He also has the one-punch KO power and has never been out of the 2nd round in his UFC career so far. So is DC right about the potential agreement? Or has Jones refused? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
