‘That’s Disrespectful for the Sport’- Cory Sandhagen Dismisses T.J. Dillashaw Getting Title Shot Next

Cory Sandhagen came up with a highlight for the ages when he knocked out Frankie Edgar in emphatic fashion with a flying knee in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 184. ‘Sandman’ believes he has done enough in the division to put himself in pole position to get a shot at the title next.
Bantamweight champion Petr Yan recently indicated that he wants to fight T.J. Dillashaw next after fighting Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259. But Sandhagen doesn’t like that idea at all. He believes Dillashaw getting a title shot straight away on his return from substance abuse ban is embarrassing for the sport.
“I heard Yan doing interview talking about how he wants to fight TJ after, you know, and TJ is coming off some of the most serious PEDS that you can do in the sport. That seems like you know, disrespectful to the sport.

“And you know, I’ve been working these last two years. I’m ready for the belt. I think I’m better than Yan,” Sandhagen said in the post-fight press conference.
“I’m a different animal since that fight with Sterling. I’m grateful that he got to teach me a lesson. But the next time we fight, I’m going to hurt Aljamain and I want to fight the winner of that fight in July, or whenever they want really.
“But nah, man, I gotta be next for the title of this whole like, there’s no one else even in the conversation. I don’t think especially after a performance like that,” he further added, making his case for a title shot clearer.

Cory Sandhagen deserves a title shot next
Sandhagen has been sensational since coming to the UFC. His only setback was his UFC 250 loss to Aljamain Sterling. But that loss has made him better and more ruthless. His stunning knockouts over Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar are testament to that fact.
There’s no doubt that he deserves to fight for the title next. Dillashaw needs to fight a contender before being put into the title picture right away. That’s only fair to the rest of the division.
