Gilbert Burns faced a devastating setback in his title fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 258. However, he found his way back to the win column after defeating Stephen Thompson at UFC 264.

Ever since then, Burns has been waiting for his next opponent. Even though the Brazilian has called out many fighters from the welterweight division, he hasn’t received a firm response.

Recently, in an interview with MMA Junkie, ‘Durinho’ expressed his interest in fighting ‘Chaos’ as he believes Covington is a viable prospect for him. He said, “For Colby, the perfect fight would be me. That’s the fight that I want. He knows that I want it. But when it’s the time to call out a guy, when it’s time to pick an opponent, they don’t pick me.”

“I think they know why. Leon never say my name. Colby never say my name. Masvidal never say my name. It’s for a reason for that, and they know why. I do know I lost that title fight, but I’ve been doing a lot of great things in that division, and they know that.”

“So that’s what I’m looking at. I’ll be ready. Colby, Masvidal, Leon, anyone, even Khamzat in the future, that’s a great option for me. I never say no for a fight. I still believe he got to do a little bit more work, but I’m still open to fight any one of these guys.”

Burns has cemented his position at #2 in the welterweight division. Meanwhile, ‘Chaos’ is fresh from his UFC 268 defeat against Kamaru Usman. However, he is interested in making a comeback as soon as possible.

Will Colby Covington Fight Gilbert Burns Next?

Following a defeat at the hands of ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ for the second time, ‘Chaos’, in the post-fight chat, revealed he would get back to training on Monday.

However, in the post-fight press conference, Colby Covington expressed his interest in fighting his friend turned foe Jorge Masvidal. The former also claimed that he would defeat ‘Gamebred’ to map his way back to the welterweight gold.
