“They Saw Dead Bodies” – Teary-Eyed Dana White Made a ‘Promise’ for Law Enforcement After Las Vegas Tragedy

UFC 216 was a special event. Not because it was headlined by Tony Ferguson, but what it stood for. The event meant a lot to the fighters on the card, and to the people present in the audience.

Just some days prior to the event, Las Vegas became the headline for all the major media publications due to a mass shooting. It was reported to be one of the deadliest events in US history.

UFC honored the first responders by providing them free tickets for UFC 216 pay-per-event held in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

UFC President Dana White shared his thoughts on the event

In a post-event interview, the UFC president stated that a reported 1,500-plus and several shooting victims attended the UFC 216.

He explained how the law enforcement authorities played an instrumental role. He pointed out, “You don’t want to see a day when there’s no law enforcement. I can promise you that.”

He asserted, “They were instrumental in helping us get you know a lot of the first responders here and then you know we reached out to the people who were shot.”

Besides this, Dana White told the reporters about the story of the two girls sitting next to him during the event. He said, “The two girls that sat next to me tonight, go to high school. They’re 17 years old.”

White further disclosed another fact and said that both the victims attend the same school as his kids.

During the same interview, he narrated how the two girls, have attained celebrity status. He mentioned, “Those two are like little rockstars now. Man, they’re out, cruising around, shaking hands.”

The UFC head honcho additionally shared his views on the impact such events have on people’s lives. Hence, he said, “You know it’s almost like you’ve got to jump back on the horse and get back in there and you know, live your life, especially girls that young they saw they saw dead bodies.”

He displayed concern for the girls and added, “They saw people shot in the head. I mean that’s tough to overcome when you’re that young.”

How the event affected the UFC President

The reporters also asked White about his own personal experience as he had been living in LA for a long time and how it affected him.

White answered that he stayed up all night watching it and said, “It was f*****g crazy man. It’s crazy when you watch this stuff and it’s 10 minutes downstream from your house.”

The 53-year-old concluded by saying, “I got very little sleep I woke up the next day but it’s almost like I knew exactly what I had to do.”

The UFC President earlier had made the statement that the UFC 216 Las Vegas event was “about the families, the victims, Las Vegas, and not bowing down to cowards.” UFC had also pledged to donate $1 million to the victims.

The unfortunate event resulted in claiming 58 lives and over 500 were injured.
