There are very few things more horrible than being wrongly sentenced to imprisonment, and that too for 30 years. That is precisely what happened to Bruce Bryan. He went to prison at 23 years of age and came out at 53. Bryan’s powerful voice was the centerpiece of the latest installment of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’

Part of the reason JRE is so popular is the stimulating conversations that Joe Rogan presents to the audience. In episode #1993, Rogan hosted Bryce Bryan and Josh Dubin. The former had recently gotten out of jail and the latter was a criminal justice reform advocate and a civil rights attorney.

Over their two-hour-long chat, they covered several important topics regarding the legal system, including Bryan’s experience in prison after he was wrongfully sent there. During the conversation, they also talked about the impact it can have on your life even after you’re free. As an example, Rogan mentioned the case of his friend and musician Jelly Roll.

The BJJ black belt said the $6 million worth rapper turned his life around after his release. He recounted how he made country hip-hop music and won three awards in the same year. Rogan described him as “a good dude” and “a salt of the earth person” with a “sensational” voice.

The tragedy, Rogan said, was that “He couldn’t buy the house that he wanted.” The longtime UFC commentator continued, “I mean, this is a guy who won three country music awards. Just this year. He came. It was in Austin.”

The former ‘Fear Factor’ host said, “He came to the Mothership that night on cloud nine because he wins these awards. Comes to see Ron White and then finds out this house that he thought he was buying… He can’t buy now because he’s a felon.”

Rogan added, “They won’t let him in the community. It’s a gated community on a golf course. It’s a beautiful house, his dream house.”

It appalled his guests to hear the story. Josh Dubin said it broke his heart to hear stories like that. Rogan further explained that his friend was simply hanging with the wrong crowd when he was young and dumb. He did not do anything by himself in the crime he was convicted of.
