One fan commented, “Tom Holland meets real life superhero” to remark that Leon Edwards may just be the closest thing to a real-life superhero. A nod to Rocky’s superhuman fighting ability. “

Colby Covington next on the agenda?

In the post-fight media scrum, Dana White confirmed that Edwards’s next challenger would be MMA’s biggest villain, Colby Covington. Moreover, the welterweight contender occupies second spot in the rankings and has only lost to Kamaru Usman. He has been inactive for over a year but poses the biggest immediate threat to the welterweight champ. Colby’s superb fight IQ should prove to be an excellent test for the Englishman early in his title reign.

However, Edwards wasn’t too happy to find out that Covington was his next challenger, as he felt he hadn’t fought enough to earn a title shot. Rocky it would appear, was looking forward to a Masvidal matchup which could materialize should ‘Gamebred’ beat Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. Moreover, Edwards snubbing Covington’s attempt at challenging him for the title has left some fans frustrated with the champion.

Prompting one fan to comment, “Stop ducking Colby,”

Another fan commented, “Champ running from Colby ain’t the way. That’s the fight WE THE FANS WHO PAY FOR THE TICKETS want to see. Colby is a tough mfer and if you beat him it increases your worth. Don’t be a b*tch.”

Nevertheless, a portion of the fanbase believes Edwards is avoiding a fight against Colby as champions normally don’t have grounds to avoid the challenger in the division. A matchup with the master trash-talker seems to be on the cards, with Edwards possibly having to develop his ‘Spidey’ sense to match Covington’s high-level wrestling. How do you think Covington matches up against the real-life superhero Leon Edwards? Let us know in the comments.
