Tony Ferguson Offered a ‘Chance To Redeem’ Himself

Tony Ferguson isn’t having the best time in the UFC lately. Currently standing at a losing streak of five matches, ‘El Cucuy’ desperately needs a victory to redeem himself. And looks like that ‘chance’ has come knocking to the 38-year-old’s door, as he’s received a fresh call out from his former adversary, Michael Johnson, who defeated him over a decade ago, snapping Ferguson’s winning streak of three fights since debut. It appears that Tony Ferguson is the hot pick for being called out lately, given that he received a call out earlier from Li Jingliang, too. So, the opportunities are coming his way themselves, and now it’s up to him where to lead. With Johnson, in particular, this rematch would be really interesting to see, especially given the lengthy interval between bouts.
Tony Ferguson has an opportunity AND an option, too
After facing Tony Ferguson back in 2012 and handing him his first-ever UFC defeat, Michael Johnson is back for more. More than a decade later, ‘The Menace’ has called for ‘El Cucuy’ again and made him a gracious offer to ‘redeem’ himself.

The Californian fighter hasn’t responded to the challenge yet. But based on what Johnson once said about bringing in good luck for his opponents after he fights them, maybe this could work for Tony Ferguson again. Maybe?

In the post-fight interview of UFC Vegas 54, Michael Johnson talked about how he feels being ‘overlooked’ by the people and that there’s more to him than they know. Johnson said, “I think a lot of people have overlooked me. A lot of people don’t realize, like, what I have done in this sport. Who I fought, you know, who I have shared that cage with, and what they’ve done after I fought them.”
Furthermore, he stated how he brings good luck to his opponents, which in turn, inspires him to push harder. “Tony Ferguson went on to win like 20 fights in a row after I beat him, you know(laughs). You know, Dustin Poirier went on to become a champion, a dominant champion after I knocked him out. And to see them succeed just makes me wanna push harder.”, stated ‘The Menace’.
